Time to throw out the broccoli

So tonight I pulled out some broccoli because I've been trying to eat my veggies, and I found flowers sprouting from the ends. Is this normal? I've seen old broccoli before, but never flowers starting to grow! I thought it was pretty funny, and decided to throw it away.

Camp Sunshine Pumpkin Festival

Last night Eric and I went to Boston to check out the pumpkin festival at City Hall. They have over 30,000 pumpkins carved and lit. It was really fun to see so many pumpkins and so many people out carving them. There was also a Red Sox game, as well as the famous Regatta, so there were tons of people out! We stopped by Mike's Pastry shop in the Italian district, but unfortunately it was so packed we just decided to go home. But we had a fun little excursion!

Vermont

So we celebrated Eric's birthday this weekend by driving up to Vermont. We camped out at the Burke Mountain campground, and had heard that the weather was supposed to be very cold and snowy. However, by Thursday the weather report had improved so we decided to give it a shot. It was beautiful! The leaves were so vibrant, and the air crisp. We hiked on Saturday and on Sunday took the long way home, driving all the way through the state. We can literally say we have seen Vermont in it's entirety. And we'd love to go back!
It did snow, by the way, but it was on Sunday morning as we were packing up. Here are some photos I took around the campsite. The store sells camp gear, and I have no idea if that cut-out is a bear or some other animal, but it is being stored in front of the bathrooms until ski season!

Here are some photos of the amazing colors we caught on film this weekend. Anyone want to come out to Vermont with us next year?

Here are some photos of our hike up Mt. Pisgah, overlooking Lake Willoughby. The hike itself was covered in trees and leaves, but once we got to the top, the view opened up to a gorgeous lake, surrounded in Fall colors.

Today Eric and I had a few spare hours and decided to drive to Concord, one of our favorite places. There is so much history there, as well as picturesque homes and land. There are farms all over the place, so we stopped at one that our friend Ellen had told us about. It was complete with a pile of pumpkins, a pond with fish and ducks, and plenty of squash and decorative hanging witches. We will miss our Falls in the East when we are no longer here!

Concord

After the farm we stopped at the North Bridge, where the "shot heard around the world" took place. The Concord River runs through there and people can rent kayaks and canoes to go exploring. Eric and I might have to try it sometime. On the way home we stopped at our favorite ice cream shop, Bedford Farms. The ice cream is so creamy, and the portions are ridiculously huge. Anyway, it was a fun quick trip!

Our Last Alaska Blog

All right, so below we've written about our time in Alaska, but we wanted to add a couple more photos. There are just too many to choose from! We really enjoyed all our sightseeing and hikes, and had endless panoramic views of mountains and lush forests. Hope you enjoy!

All Things Alaska

Ok, so I've decided to just give a nice overview of our time in Alaska, since it was such an eventful summer for us, and let's face it; we have so many photos of Alaska that we had to share more! Even the most amateur photographer can take unbelievable pictures there. We've gone through our whole collection and chosen some favorites. First of all, we saw glacier upon glacier upon glacier! We lost count after 15 or so. But they are so beautiful! We were able to go on several cruises to explore them closer, as well as a couple hikes. One of the cruises we spent with Demri and Chelsi's mom, who came out to visit in July. Chelsi's dad followed in August, as well as Eric's family. One of our highlights included kayaking, where we saw several sea otters, seals, and jellyfish. Another fun thing we did was salmon fish (on land!). We went once with Chelsi's dad and another time with Eric's family. Both times proved to be successful. Mmmm, salmon!
So we just had to include this picture of moose droppings. For some reason everyone in Alaska is obsessed with them! All of the gift shops include moose poo straws, moose poo chocolate, you name it. It does kind of look like those little chocolate footballs....
Anyway we really loved our time there and appreciated the time our families took to come out and see us!

Alaska

As most of you know, Eric and I spent the summer in Anchorage, Alaska. One day in particular stands out to us. We had gone to visit some friends in Halibut Cove, just off the coast from Homer. Chelsi's friend and former employer, Andrea Anaya, was staying there at a cabin she and her husband Gene had just bought. Well, we were really excited because we were about to go halibut fishing, and Chelsi was having a great day so far, meaning that her morning sickness was practically nonexistant (which was very unusual!). We left Halibut Cove and started on our way to the fishing site, which was about a 2 hour drive by boat. The waves were pretty bad and needless to say Chelsi's stomach started churning. By the time the boat had stopped 2 hours later she was pretty sick, with her morning sickness/sea sickness. Anyway, Eric was so excited to fish! He had always wanted to go halibut fishing. Well, to Chelsi's delight, there happened to be 2 very sick passengers on the other boat they had gone fishing with, and she took a ride back to the cove. Eric stayed and up catching 3 fish. Not bad for his first time!
While in Halibut Cove we loved spending time with the Anayas, and included are photos of Kaelys and Kailea, 2 of the children Chelsi nannied for.

Lucas Cornelius

On our drive from Boise to Massachusetts, we stopped at Ian and Tia's house, where we stayed for a couple days. Lucas, their little boy, is now just over a year and has wedged his way into Chelsi's heart for good! She snapped a couple photos of him and Ian and Tia liked them so much they asked for copies. Lucas loves to be chased and thrown around, and especially loves the bath! Chelsi really needs her own kid.....
